I woke up to the last day of this long holiday (part 1). I laid on my bed, thinking of the things I would do. I told myself, I go to church, and then I go ice skating, and then I go to the discount shop that does open on Sundays. And then I looked at the clock and it was 11.39. I guessed I could forget about church. I didn’t do skating nor shopping either because there was not enough sun left in the day. Twelve hours earlier, I was devouring the Xenophobe’s Guide to the Danes. Yes I was back in my whatever place in the Danish society. I quote the book, “Their language is unlearnable, their identity elusive… but it is difficult not to like the creators of Lego, the producers of so much bacon and butter, and the brewers of (probably) the best beer in the world.” I nodded and I will come back to you later with what they can do with Lego and Darth Vader, but unlearnable… Really? This I could not accept. I had invested a thousand kronors in it and I hadn’t even claimed for the refund. I came to think about it, how did we learn english anyway? Exactly. By watching television and listening to music. Apart the fact that we started with english before we can remember, the theory is it’s the same. And that was how I bought my first danish song. I don’t know what it means yet. But it’s good music and I believe this is the right direction.
